Human Trafficking
Course Description:
In this course we
will explore the slavery problem in Ohio, the United States, and the world with
emphasis on women and children. We will examine actual human trafficking cases
in Ohio and the new Columbus legislation trying to help relieve this problem. It
is critical to understand what is taking place so we can protect our children
and educate them on how to become less vulnerable. This course is critical for
middle and high school teachers.
There are over 27 million slaves in the world today. Currently,
throughout the world, there are 100 million females who cannot be located. That
is 3% of the worlds female population! Every
day in the United States 2,300 people become missing! Second only weapon sales
and having surpassed drug sales, human trafficking is the largest and fastest
growing organized crime activity in the world resulting in a multi-billion
dollar industry. Forced factory and agricultural labor, the sex trade, debt
bondage, domestic help, and children soldiers comprise the many facets of this
contemptible enterprise.
